Relationship between the use of academic social networks (ResearchGate or Google Scholar) and student scientific production in Perú

This study explored the relationship between the use of academic social media platforms, such as ResearchGate and Google Scholar, and the scientific production of university students in Peru. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was adopted, working with a sample of 78 undergraduate and graduate students from public and private universities. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data, and statistical analysis identified a positive and significant correlation (r = 0.689, p < 0.01) between the frequency of use of these platforms and the number of publications. Furthermore, notable differences were found based on educational level and academic specialty: graduate students not only published more, but also used these networks more strategically. Although their use is still limited, the results suggest that these platforms can be valuable tools for promoting university research. It is recommended that educational institutions incorporate training in the use of these digital tools from the initial stages of the program.
